Devo forged a singular musical path through the 80s with a predilection for segueing avant-garde ideals into infectious pop melodies. Although their brush with mainstream chart success was unfortunately brief the band gained a huge cult following and were rightly revered as innovators in their field. In 1996 the by-now defunct band reconvened for a concert at Irvine Meadows in California much to the delight of their Devo-ted fanbase. Working their way through some classic material (including Whip It Uncontrollable Urge and Girl U Want among others) the band performed with their usual visual charisma and panache sporting their trademark jumpsuits and robotic dance moves. This release includes the concert in its entirety illustrating the timeless cult wonder of this oddball band.Devo: Live opens with a short montage of Devo videos before plunging into a rare live performance from 1996. The lively set features 11 favorites from a Lollapalooza engagement--opening for Metallica, no less--at Irvine Meadows. The former "spud boys" of the 1970s and 1980s, now spud men, are as energetic as ever and the synchronized dancing for "Satisfaction" and "Uncontrollable Urge" is a treat. Something about Devo in broad daylight seems strange, but the band doesn't let the sun--or lack of background visuals--slow them down. The focus is on the music, with occasional shots of the audience, a foray into the crowd for a "Jocko Homo" sing-along, and a costume change from jumpsuits to shorts and T-shirts (white leg alert!). Though slightly less essential than the video compilation The Complete Truth About De-Evolution, Devo: Live is a great companion piece for the dedicated Devo devotee. 54 minutes long and 520mb. use HJ-Split to join all the downloaded files together http://www.freebyte.com/hjsplit/

I think their new album sucks. Sounds like it was written and recorded in 2 hours.
I didn't even know they had one Nazz. I'm just trying it now. Cheers for the tip!
Smashing stuff Longy - I'll be watching this with interest.
All the best

Your welcome George :)
Never really got into Devo but a mate at work is a huge fan. He will be well impressed with this. Many thanks.
No worries. Your welcome KC :)
What a great show. Thanks again
Glad you liked it Eric :)
You can't have enough DEVO!
And this show is pretty darn good!
But I do agree about the broad daylight issue. Gotta give Mark and Bob and the others credit for such a fine show, more than 15 years after starting the premise of "De-Evolution"!
