Not a major issue but one thats bugging the crap out of me. Since I've had Windows XP reinstalled and have tried to use Mediafire I load a file up as I did before and when I click upload it goes to 100% straight away (but it doesn't upload the file straight away at all) It just goes to the bit at the end where it says "checking file" and stays there til the file uploads. Its exactly the same on Rapidshare too except it goes to 99% so its something to do with my new settings I think. But its pissing me off so can anyone help?
Also my mp3's used to be a greyish (I think) colour and now they are all white. I want my grey back! I use winamp. How can I get it back?
Despite downloading several versions of Winrar,I still get errors every bloody time I either download or upload something. Why?
I also need a DVD Ripper (a free twat of course) that is reliable and virus free. I did have 5 different ones before and all of them were pretty good on their day but that day was last Tueday,a week last wednesday, four weeks last Sunday etc. So many these days have trojans inside them and after Monday I'm wary of what to download. Preferably I'd like one that does DVD's at 700mb like alot of these movie you see online. Can anyone help poor old Longy?
Oh and one last thing. How do you get rid of that mouseclick noise? I've tried all the suggestions I've seen online like go to sounds and audio devices>sounds>windows explorer> and set start navigation to no sounds but I've still got that damned noise and its annoying as hell. Maybe there is a way of turning it off in mouse setting in the control panel? It might have something to do with the fact that I reinstalled my digi turntable and the dreaded itunes. As a computer dunce,I have no idea really. This one is pissing me off more than anything and if you can help me get rid of that fucking mouseclick I'll award you gold stars,Blue Peter chufty badges and if your a bird,my body!
Anyone got any idea how to put any of these right please?

make a complete virus scan...or re-install and update windows
good luck
Done all that Mike (in a computer repair shop!) Cheers anyway.
http://www.videohelp.com/tools/DVD_Decrypter
That can rip the VIDEO_TS folders of DVDs.
You can then load the .ifo file into
http://www.autogk.me.uk/
and use one of its many options to encode into an avi of your desired size.
Cheers anon. To be honest, all that looks too complicated for me. I just need a working free DVD ripper (put the dvd in the slot and rip it to avi sort of thing) I'm a dunce and that thing looks far to techinal!
All I can say Longy is get to know your "Control Panel" options under your Start menu on the bottom of Windows screen (goto "mouse" icon). Then buy a Realplayer as it will rip for you maybe but check it out. It is great for putting a "rip menu bar" in the upper right of the Youtube window so you can make your own video jukebox onto your computer memory...or BTW I just got my PC (16 bit Windows at 120 GB) AND my Laptop B4 the crash at 90 GB on one of these $70 external 320GB drives...too bad Longy you hadn't got this but you were smart about the music anyway...hope videos are OUT THERE.
Viacomclosedmedown on youtube and downunderground blog
Hello Viacom. I know the control control panel mouse icon but I don't know how to get the clicking to stop. If you know then please share your secret!
As for Real Player.....well I actually tried to re-download that in the week but gave up after several attempts/errors/failures at their end.
Oh mate you got many troubles! Let me start working one by one and I let you know soon the best and simple solution for each one or at least for some of them :(
Cheers
- mouseclick sound:
1) go to control panel and then to "sound".
2) select "sounds" option and should appear a list with all windows sounds associated with each action. Choose "without sound" if you want to mute all fucking windows sounds. Or select from the list only the one you want to mute and then select "none"
3) finally don't forget to "apply" and check if that noise it's now dead.
Try this, and tell me if worked...meanwhile I'll search for another solution.
The mp3 colour thing do you mean the icon?
If it's that, just right click on an mp3 file and go to "open with" then "choose program" select Winamp from the menu that opens up and click the box marked "always use the selected program to open this kind of file".
That should get back your Winamp icon on all mp3's.
As for DVD rippers I suggest these 2 programs "DVD43" available for free on the net (google it) which gets rid of any protection, no need to do anything it just looks at any inserted discs and tells you when it's safe.
Then the ripper is a prog called WINAVI video converter (I use version 8) which does just about anything you need (DVD to AVI, MPEG, WMV etc and the reverse) which you should be able to pick up from most torrent sites or somewhere else.
Always virus scan any downloads of course and never install direct.
Here's your best easy solution for DVD rip/burn Longy as Asbo said:
http://www.mediafire.com/?kmhzzylwdm5
is a portable one then, you have to wait around one minute to load the program but you avoid any virus. I checked it and you will not find any problem with it.
Cheers
Is XP a must have?My kids have Linux Mint installed and they can rip dvds easy with acidrip or dvdrip. They have XP on their laptops too but like mint better. You can burn a "live cd" and boot from it to test that it works with your hardware without installing it.I dont use it myself but I've had a look at it and it looks easy enough.
it seems that you have some sort of a trojan or hijacker in your computer. try noob killer first, it's a freeware that cleans your pc from viruses like sowar and hijackers. Here's the link:
http://freemedia.realgage.com/noob-killer-36332.html
as for DVD ripper, i'm using Format Factory. So far it doesn't cause me any trouble. Here's the link.
http://www.formatoz.com/
I think there's some sort of a problem with rapidshare, mediafire and megaupload recently. My download is greatly reduced that I have to resort to Download Accellerator Plus (it's also free) just to make my DLs faster. I haven't uploaded anything yet since I know it's just gonna be very slow too.
Cheers for your comments people
First off englishfog. I've tried that mouseclick option. I can get rid of every sound except the mouseclick. If I go to a music file then the mouseclick is still there. If I knock off ALL sounds,I STILL have that one. It won't go. I assume the folder you are on about is Sounds and Audio Devices (I've got XP) As I said,it might be something to do with the digi-turntable and itunes being reinstalled.
Thanks for the link to the dvd thingy :-)
Asbo - Your winamp thing. My white files are already associated with Wimamp and nothing changes when I try that option. Cheers for the DVD Ripper info. I shall try it later when I return from the Dentist (grrrr)
Hi Johnny. I guess as the computer as just come back from the shop with XP back on then for now it is a must-have. Next time it might not be though so cheers for the info.
Hello Punk Rock Daddy. Cheers for your info too. I don't think I have either a trojan or highjacker now but I certainly did have last week (all internal HD's wiped so its clean now) Cheers also for the link for a dvd ripper and downloading info. I'm uploading and downloading at the same speeds but have the problems I've explained in the first paragragh of my post (along with error city on my winrar which is not a new problem)
Hi Longy. To change the icon associated with the mp3's:
1) open winamp
2) right click on winamp tray and go to "options" and then go to "preferences"
3) At the right-top go to "File Types"
It should appear at your right the actual File Icon. Move the "tiny bar" (the one that it looks like a volume control) and search for your missed Icon (or try other if you like)
4) Close preferences and it should appear your new Icon on all your mp3's.
Let me see what else can I find for the mouseclick noise.
Cheers
sorry...in 3) I should say "at the left-top " :)
Nice one englishfog :-) thats one problem sorted. Cheers mate.
Here's another possible solution for the mouseclick. Maybe the program that you use with the turntable (or other program) is using this sound even if you turn off the windows sounds. Ok.
1) Go to Windows folder and open it (choose I want to open it)
2) Look for "Media" file and open it. This file contains all windows sounds (around 50 files).
3) Look for "Windows Navigation Start" and move it to another folder in your hard drive (not to the same Windows folder) just remember where you put it.
Check if the mouseclick is off. If not, return the file to "Media" folder and repeat the process now with "Start" file.
Try this and tell me if that worked.
Cheers
Sorry for sounding stupid englishfog but I have no idea what you mean or where you mean by open windows folder. Where exactly do you mean lol.
It's ok mate. In the hard drive of your computer, (not external drive) it must be a folder called "Windows". To open it follow this steps:
1) Go to "Start" at your left-bottom and select "My Computer". It should appear your hard drive (s). Double click on the hard drive icon of your computer to open it. Usually this drive is the "C" drive.
2) Then, look for the "WINDOWS" folder and double click to open it
if appears a message that says something like "are you sure to open this folder?" select yes I want to open it.
then follow the steps that I said before.
Tell me if you sucess, If not I can send you a set om images to clarify the process.
Hi englishfog. Right I've located the file and moved it (Windows Navigation Start) but there is no way of opening it. Its just a blank winamp file at 0 seconds (mouseclick noise is still present too) I'll reboot the computer and see if it is still there and tell you if its gone.
Still got the damned noise....oh well, cheers anyway.
Problem 1 in my post is turning out to be a bigger problem than I expected now too. Spent 4 hours uploading a 200mb file to rapidshare and it stayed on 99% from the start and didn't move (or finish) If I can't sort that one then I'm in major trouble :-( Its the same with all the uploading sites so its definately something to do with my settings somewhere.
try this: right click on the file "Windows Navigation Start" and select "cut" and then "paste" on another place (another folder) different of that "Media" folder.
The idea is that this file "Windows Navigation Start" is not in the folder "Media".
You're right, this file is a very short sound file (mouseclick sound) is not 0 size although it seems.
There's no need to reboot the computer mate, and there's no need to open the "Windows Navigation Start" file neither, just moved to another folder.
If sound click persist, try now with the other one "start" file, because I don't know exactly what is the sound that you hear!
I'll see what can I do about the rapidshare, etc problem
Thats what I did mate but still it persists. The sound is when you click on a windows folder or surf the net....like a click sound on the mouse...hence the name :-0) I don't think its going to go unless I unistall my digi-turntable/itunes and that was such a hassle to install,I ain't gonna unistall it.
I really appreciate your help though.
The last thing I suggest mate, is to delete this file "Windows Navigation Start". I deleted it and the sound of the mouseclick gone on XP. And yes, it is the sound when you open a folder or surf the net. It should work because there will not be that sound file anymore! Try it, you don't loose anything as you can restore it from the trash can.
Not even that works mate :-((
What! Must be another sound then. Go to sounds-> audio devices -> sounds. There, choose "Windows Default" sound option and from the list of sounds below select and press play on each one to find out what is the bastard one. Then, identify the name and delete it as the other. Hope it works as I can't figure was happening then :(
Its definately the start navigation sound mate. Bunged it in the recycle bin and the fucker is still clicking away spoiling my music.
I'm gonna have to live with it I think. Cheers for your help.
don't give up mate! Maybe the sound file is in various folders. Try this
1) go to start and select search
2) type: Windows Navigation Start and wait to see the folders where is located the file.
3) right click on every file and delete all with the name Windows Navigation Start (just check that the files are sound files, that is, the ones that have the winamp icon)
if this doesn't works, I will focus on the other problems cause I don't know what's going on.
Cheers
Hi mate! I checked your problem 1, i.e the upload problem. I don't know exactly what's happening, but I saw the upload speed graphic in the computer for each host server when I upload a file. In this graphic, I can see how it works each host server in terms of its efficency, and I found that a good one should be around to 2% percent of internet use when uploading (and 4% for downloading). The worst was rapidshare cause it reached only 0.5% and mediafire was around 2%. But, if the internet speed changes too much, can cause that the host server "reacts" and stops the upload or has the result that you say.
The most AMAZING thing was when I tested Megaupload. You won't believe me, but the internet usage suddenly increased reaching more than 12% internet use!!!
In consequence I uploaded 100MB in just ONE fucking second!!! I'm not exagerating, it was ONE second exactly!
I know that this sounds ridicoulus...but is true I swear!!
I downloaded the file (at normal speed now) to check if it was fine, and it was perfectly good! no errors, nothing.
Maybe, your files that you uploaded are good too, download them to check if they are fine.
In short, I don't know what's going on with the host servers, but I suggest you to try to upload in Megaupload and see if you can upload your files in one second too!!
However, I can't be sure that you will found the same when uploading cause I don't know what's happening.
Cheers
Hi englishfog.
Sorry about the delay in answering you here but the bloody computer has been back in the shop and windows xp reinstalled again! So now I am back to square one and have to re-install everything again.
I will tell you how I'm getting on much much later when everything is done. Cheers once again for your help.
Ok mate. I will keep an eye here to see if I can help when you finish. Btw, I think I know what's happening with the host servers. If you upload a file that is already on the host server, i.e, with the same name and size then, they don't upload the file again, they just give you instantaneously a new link for the same already uploaded file ...that explains the one second uploads...damn I was excited with this light speed uploads :(
Cheers
I thought that at first englishfog but it does it even if I name a file differently. Its a real pain in the arse.
Hi longy, i now use linux & dvd rip for ripping dvds, but on windows i used to use dvdshrink, free & a piece of piss to use, googling for it takes you to their website where they try to get you to buy a copy, but if u go to cnet you can get the free one.
Hi corbypunk. I actually have dvd shrink which use for making dvds out of avi's along with dvd flick. I didn't think you could rip dvd's with it. I will investigate it later...much later. Cheers.
