Just found this old letter from ex Chelsea FC Chairman Ken Bates from February 1998. I wrote him a stinking letter complaining about the sacking of Ruud Gullit (We were 2nd in the League at the time...pretty unheard of back then) I was suprised to get a reply especially a signed one. It woundn't happen now for sure.Note line 4 "From the letters recieved,support for the decision is slightly ahead of those against" Proof if ever it was needed that football chairmen are lying b******s. Ruud was apparently sacked for asking for 2 million a year in wages.
It all worked out well in the end. Luca Vialli took over as Manager and we won 5 trophys. And when Mr Abramovich took over at CFC a few years later,Mr Ken Bates walked away with a cool 17 million pounds in his pocket.

Bates did have some good points anon (like saving Stamford Bridge from the property developers) He has some bad ones too (like slagging off Matthew Harding on the 1st anniversory of his death) Theres never a dull moment with him about though. Sorry I can't wish you good luck for the season!
Agree with you in a way gonk. "Goddle" did start the revolution at Chels. The Ruud boy did push us on though.
