Lords Of The New Church - New Church 7'' (1982)

The great Lords Of The New Church led by former Dead Boys frontman Stiv Bators R.I.P. Great guitar from ex Damned legend Brian James, cracking bass from Sham's Dave Treganna and whopping drums from Nick Turner formerly of the Barracudas. This lot when they first came out were ace. They lost their way a bit in the end and tailed off musically in my opinion. This was their first single.

Tracks

1) New Church
2) Livin' On Livin'

Great post(s) Longy. I agree with your assessment - They were ace when they first came on the scene in 82, but soon became just another Goth Rock band, never really living up to their collective talent.

Always thought that they should have used the pic on the cover of the ‘New Church’ single as the first album cover, instead of that crap oil painting thingy.

Cheers for the comments Kes. Your right about the cover. I expect they were scared it would put off all the religious nutters if they used it for an album. If I remember rightly, the first LP came with a poster of the front cover of the album as well.

Wasn't the cover black in the US ?

Oh and the mix is different from the album one

Maybe an American will tell us.

I think the first album cover was changed to the Lords dagger emblem for the US release. I seem to recall also that the original cover was blamed for poor initial sales of the album in the UK.
