The final one that I have from Plymouth's Optimistic label posted for Curious Guy. This one was a nightmare to rip. The A side unfortunately jumps twice but I managed to get down from double figures in the end! Luckily, the B side is better and that survived the jumping. Both sides crackle like only a good old Longy Optimistic Label rip could but don't let that put you off eh.
Theres a another old face I recognise from my days of working in the Dockyard in Guitarist Pete White (I use the phrase "working" very loosly as the Dockyard in Plymouth was once a holiday camp for many thousands of lazy b******s including my good self)
Now I need your help. Has anyone got the 2 missing records from the Optimistic series? 1) Jethro - Wind Of Change 7'' and 2) Revs - The Cure 7'' (cheers for the info Curious Guy) I would pay good money for either but I'd prefer you to just send them this way (inc cover scans) and get your name up in lights ect : - ) There must be someone out there with em! Pretty please!
Tracks
1) Don't Panic
2) Passing Dream

Thanks Longy. A pity about the skips but putting a 5+ minutes song on a 45RPM single is asking for trouble :)
Your not wrong mate. I'm ripping a 7+ minute song on 12'' at the moment and I'm having enough blimmin trouble with that as well grrrr!
Hi Longy , just been leafing through the internet in a quiet moment. Regarding Optimistic records and your quest for Jethro and Revs. I can tell you that there were only two white label pressings of Jethro single ever done and no more,( i do have one)but never released .
Revs was never pressed up. I do have a cassette recorded copy of the two tracks they recorded . also a few 'live' recordings of D.S. and one of Sabotage ( the awesomely amazing HMV shop first live concert) [they played twice there]. yours sincerely, John Pegg ( am mentioned on the back of a couple of optimistic singles.
Hi John
Thank you so much for this information. Its no wonder I cannot find both The Revs and Jethro then. Wow you have one of only two released Jethro singles. Thats amazing. Small world this internet!
I vaguely remember hearing about these Sabotage gigs but I was not present at either. Would love to hear the recordings though.
Thanks again for commenting and solving this mystery for me.
Nice site! I presume you're from the southwest..... like me. Regarding the Jethro single, I've got a copy, not a white label though (it's red) so I presume it was released. I checked the run out grooves and it has the word ALI etched into it like the SPQR single and Sabotage's "Sabotage". B-Side is The Countryman. I remember those HMV gigs too, didn't the Special aka do one as well? The only Optimistic single I don't have is the Energy IQ one so thanks for posting it.
btw I found these images on flickr:

Hi The Fat One. Thanks for your comments. Cheers for that link. I notice its John Pegg's photos (the above commenter) Small world we live in eh? Now I'm confused as whether the Jethro single was ever officially released or not. Yes I think the Specials did do one of those gigs as well although again I was not present unfortunately.
I am not from the SW originally but I've been living down in Plymouth since '76. A bad time to move down from West London if ever there was one!
Indeed! I did the opposite and moved to London but that wasn't until 85. If you want me to rip this Jethro 7" I can do it next week (off to Liverpool tomorrow for a couple of days) but from what I can remember it is pretty crap, folk singing I think. My copy is signed too "Jethro XX" on the b-side..... I must be the luckiest bloke alive eh?
Oh yes please mate,I'd really very happy if you could do that for me. Yes you are luckiest bloke alive lol
Sorry Longy, I'm having a trouble with my audio interface now, should be picking up a replacement this weekend. I bet you've been salivating and cursing in equal measures since I mentioned having Jethro's single
I had faith in you mate! I tell what I really would like too and is a version of this spqr that doesn't jump 3 times. If you can do that too,I'll put your name up in lights lol
I think mine jumps too, I'll find out on Saturday
Hopefully its better than this one! Cheers TFO.
FINALLY I managed to get Jethro ripped. I had to get a new Edirol interface as my old one just didn't want to know me anymore (sob!). Don't be too disappointed when you hear it as it's bloody awful:

I tried SPQR but I just can't get a clean rip of it. I think I got it down to just one major skip with a 10p piece stuck on the stylus. Any probs with the download, just me leave a note in the comments here.
Brilliant! Thanks very much The Fat One. Downloaded fine. Thanks again mate.
Look what I've just seen on ebay The Fat One

Mad price
SPQR is on there for 16 quid.
£47.49!!!!! If I had two copies I could sell 'em and get the Neu boxset. I'd be surprised if it sells though. I wonder if their SPQR jumps as well as all the others.... they've got it marked as EX/EX.
Seeing as you used to work with Pete White I spose I'd better mention that Andy Meyer (SPQR bass player) used to drink in our local when we lived in Islington. My best mate Tom (another Plymouth chap, played drums in Concrete Rabbits) introduced us. Andy was still playing in bands then but they never came to much.
Yes its a scandel at that price isn't it.....a bit like the Neu! Box set. My mate has the first 3 Neu! CDs and just needs the fourth one which if its just what you need is here

^^^^ thats Neu 86 or 4 or whatever it is lol. I downloaded for me mate yesterday and its fine. Haven't seen the whole box set online though.
Pete was located by our centre in the yard - I didn't actually work wih him but knew him through seeing the band and other gigs.
Concrete rabbits rings a bell somewhere too.....
One turns up after ages and then a second one comes along right after:
