David Johansen - famous for being a New York Doll legend. Not the first frontman to release a mid 80's pop single either. For some reason I quite like this but I have heard better (and worse)

Yeah, not a bad single, shame about the synth, but it was the eighties. The intro to King Of Babylon always reminded me of Bill Oddie's intro on Funky Gibbon by The Goodies.

Yeah, that's not bad... it doesn't touch anything the Dolls done (even at their worst) but it's listenable. I've not had the chance to listen to much of Johansen's solo stuff... that's what great about this blog!

Thanks for this. I remember hearing Johansen perform this around 85 and liking it, and never heard it again.
Now I think every decent song from the mid-80s needs to be re-recorded. But it sounded normal at the time!

I think this was on the third Johansen solo lp, the first one not worth having. Or maybe it was alright, I just don't remember, and that first solo lp (which I have, ain't taken it digital yet but lemme know if you want it) was such a good almost Dolls quality rock album. I believe the correct spelling when he was with the Dolls was David Jofuckinghansen, balls to the wall every vocal. I love David so much for his work with the Dolls; he's the stud singer on two of the best albums ever made and had to do crap to make a living. Maybe the big problem with the American economy is that the masses prefer Hot Hot Hot to Personality Crisis. That's gotta be symptomatic of a basic problem, right?
