These guys were supporting the Subs on Friday and I brought the CD at the gig. I have permission to post this one from vocalist (Ian) and if you like your 80's hardcore stuff then this is for you. Think fast Black Flag/Circle Jerks and you'll get the picture. The band have nice little website and more freebies over at http://www.section13hc.com/ Go and check it out NOW! You'll also find the lyrics to this album there too.
Just a word or 6 about Friday's gig. Got to the Hippo early (for a change) and tucked into a few Gaynor's Ciders. The first band on were called The Submissionarys (I think) They played a covers set (Buzzcocks,Clash,Pistols,The Fall,Undertones etc) and went down very well. I heard afterwards it was their first ever gig. Bloody good effort if you ask me.
Next up Section 13 who hail from Leamington Spa. They went down even better and they were very fast and full of enemy. Definately a modern day Black Flag here. Even Mr Harper left his UK Subs stall and went down near the front. I wasn't the only one wondering if he gonna start pogoing down there lol. The singer did what no-one does at The Hippo - a touch of stage diving. Boundless energy and crunching in-your-face songs. An excellent set. Catch them if they are hitting your town. You won't be disappointed. Funnily enough the band are back next here next week for Plymouth Punk Picnic presentation The Dog Bites Back which is the Firkin Doghouse. Its just past the Aldi on the right of Union Street,4 quid for the tickets and four bands playing. I'm tempted :-)
The Hippo was quite nicely filled by time the UK Subs went on. As the band came on stage I immediately noticed there was no Alvin on bass and to my surprise Charlie announced that the bald geezer in his place was in fact original bassist Paul Slack. Due to my extremely bad memory,I can't give an account of the set-list. Songs I know they played were B1C,CID,I Live In A Car,Stranglehold,Rocker,Tomorrows Girls,Telephone Numbers,Kicks,Killer,Party In Paris,Emotional Blackmail,Endangered Species,Teenage,Left For Dead,New York State Police,I Couldn't Be You,Blues,Self Destruct,Police State and Warhead. Loads more that I can't remember too. I know they did 3 songs for the first encore and 4 for the second but by now I was well minging. My only slight disappointment was they didn't do She's Not There especially with Paul Slack present. Well you can't have it all can you and for a measly 8 quid, the gig was value for money personified. It was a great gig and the night was not over.
To finish the evening we headed over to the Nowhere Inn those landlord just happens to one of The Bus Station Loonies. And its got a licence til 3am and its what I call a proper pub. Proper beer, proper jukebox with proper music on it. I got in just after 2.30am I think and I was still pissed at 1.15 when I finally got out of bed. Its not big,its not clever but it is true. Oh and from the horses mouth, there will be a brand new Bus Station Loonies album out next year.
PS Forget to mention, also present at the Hippo (and the Nowhere Inn) was another Charlie. Not Harper but Casey - The original Bassist of Menace and now based in Plymouth. I had a good conversation with him. Guess who brought the first ever copy of Menace's "Skrewed Up" single? None other than Charlie Harper!
Anyway enough of this rambling, download this album, check the bands site and leave some nice comments for Ian and the band who are kind enough to share this with the world. I'm off out for a footy afternoon.

Sounds like a proper night out Longy!! Always like it when surpises happen at gigs. Paul Slack huh? That is cool. Glad you have a chance to talk to Charlie Casey. I chat with him every now and then on Facebook. Yeah Facebook. Nice guy!!
Ken
Yes it was Ken and I'm still feeling it. Facebook! I tried that for about one day and deleted the annoying bloody thing lol
You've hooked me on another one Longy.
Cheers!
Good man Biopunk. Glad someone likes it!
Hi Longy,
I'm Taz and I organise the Plymouth Punx Picnic, thank u for advertising the 'Dog Bites Back' gig, appreciate it. It was a gig to raise funds for next years Punx Picnic, it was a cracking nite, and we had a good turn out considering the time of year and the weather!!
Dont know if Charlie (Menace) mentioned it, but he was playing that nite too, he plays bass for a fab local Punk covers band 'S-Punk 3'. Section 13 were on FINE form, great to have them down again!!
I can keep u posted on future PPP gigs if like? Be good to meet yas.
Cheers again, Taz.
Hi Taz. Yes Charlie did mention S-Punk 3. I think they were going to play the hippo when the Buzzcocks were down here a while back and I was disappointed they didn't.
Yes of course you can keep me posted on PPP or any other future events for that matter. Unfortunately I didn't make the DBB on the Saturday (due to overdoing it on the friday) but I heard it was another good night I missed! Cheers.
