Is Britain really broken?

Is Britain really broken? Well I watched the movie Harry Brown last night and it makes you think. I'm lucky,I don't live on a rough Council Estate anymore so maybe those that do can answer the question better than I can. I don't live in a particularly nice area but its better than alot of places out there. I do feel safe to go out at night but like any other City there are places I will avoid going. It shouldn't be like that though should it?

I loved the character Harry Brown, played so realistically by the great Sir Michael Caine. Its a 2009 British version of Death Wish really and pulls no punches. Anyone else seen it? He certainly believed in vengeance!

How would you change so called "Broken Britain"? I know what I would do for a start. I would outlaw Hoodies. Ban them. A jail sentence for wearing one if you are under 35 years of age. That would help stop all these little fuckers who go around anonymously bashing people up.

I'm not a great fan of CCTV and being watched (probably even as I type this) the cameras seem to be the only kind of Policing there is these days. All our Cops seem to spend their time catching Motorists doing 35mph in a 30mph zone. We need to reclaim our streets and people need to feel safe. We need more Harry Brown's!

I have not seen it yet, but according to IMDb was rated very high and that is a good point. Michael Caine is a top notch actor which makes more interesting the film. Is sad but you're right we don't feel safe these days. Here, if there is a gang's conflict (which are very often) you call the police and promptly you can hear the sound of the sirens...but later you realize that the sound of the sirens slowly vanished in the air...the fuckers are running away of the conflict!! One hour later they arrive like dogs and ask to everybody "What's going on?", "Where are the gangsters?" "There's nothing here, let's go!"

With that kind of police won't be a surprise to see more Harry Browns in the future.

In England we are luckier than most englishfog. Theres so many places in the world that are very unsafe to live in. I just don't want my country to turn any worse than it already is. Cheers for your comment.

Thanks for that mate.

Cheers

But who broke it? I'm an over 35 year old hood wearer, have been for 15+ before they became media-rized and demonized, and worn most unfashionably by the youth of today. Stick to the sentences that the courts can give out to the 'crims' Police Force, or Police Service. I dunno longy..it's a different world now, or is it? Stay free!

No probs englishfog :-)

It wasn't us Nuzz (thats if it is broken) I'm not sure, thats why I asked the question but it does seem like a different world. Theres no discipline, alot of parents don't seem to give a fuck what their children are up to,drugs are more rife than ever especially the stuff that kills you, houses getting robbed all the time, people getting beaten up,people scared to go out - was it always like that? I dunno, maybe it was but I didn't notice or was too off my box to care.

Wear a hat Nuzz. I don't want to accidently shoot you when I'm on a Harry Brown trip one day lol

Wouldn't you know it that "English Humor" as you called it before comes through again and just when I'm wearing a hoody for a bar called Kharacters in Homer, AK that my sister designed the 5 color iron-on design on and I'm the enemy! How about a Robocop instead? Asimo on steroids!! My new show is the Forgotten...not bad volunteers doing the police work...but only in Hollywood you say?? Viacomclosedmedown

The fact is we all broke it and demonising these kids because of an item of clothing is sad. I mean would you want to see everyone who wears a Chelsea football shirt treated the same way? Stereotyping is not good for anyone. Yes there are a lot of little cunts out there I agree I deal with them on a daily/nightly basis (security guard) but they ain't all bad and each generation of kids that comes along wants tom go one step further than the last one. While I don't completely blame the media it has to take a huge responsibility for the images that are available to kids these days. I remember as a kid playing war with a pretend gun etc but nowadays you can play video games that are really life like which may be unhealthy to a young mind. I'm not for wrapping kids up in cotton wool but a little more responsibilty from the parents/goverment would help. I have two sons aged 15 and 17 and they go out to the local town (as I did) to play around I have no idea what they are doing but they know full well if they were to ever come back home in disgrace I would come down on them like a ton of bricks they also know that I don't give a flying fuck for modern ideals about parenting and if thy need a good hiding they will get one. They are it has to be sad both good lads and hey they wear their hooded tops daily.

Hi Mark. Yes I know theres alot of good people that wear hoodies but most of the innocent people who get their heads smashed for no reason usually get it done by a gang of cunts that a camera can't identify because they are wearing a bastard hoodie. Yes there should be coppers on the beat like the old days,I know that too. You sound like my old man was the way you treat your kids and I admire your stance re a good hiding if out of order. I didn't like it at the time obviously but at least it taught me right from wrong. I didn't turn out an angel but I didn't go round bashing someone up for no reason either.

PS I was getting demonised for being a Chelsea fan without having to wear any colours. Don't forget who invented the identity card in this country. Thats right,my very own football club back in the 80's. Its only really the last 15/20years that I have not been branded "an animal" for supporting the club.

Oh yeah I agree that they are cowards and shameful the way they hide their faces, no real difference to the way the old blaggers would hide the faces with stockings when robbing a bank tho'. Did you see the McIntyre Uncovered documentary a couple of years back when he infiltrated the so called Chelsea headhunters? Andy Frain the main culprit in that documentary was from Reading and I know him it's scum like him who over the years has given the decent Chelsea boys a bad name. The thing is with this hoodie wearing culture is that the goverment branding the wearer a "Hoodie" has only made the item of apparell seem even cooler to the kids. As you say the lack of old William on our streets is appalling. My old lady is a PCSO and she ehjoys her job but I hate the fact she is doing it as I see it as a cop-out by the government from employing genuine Police enforcement.

If it is illegal to impersonate a Police officer why have we got PCSO's?

Longy said...

Hello again Marky. Yes I did see the programme and used to see Frain occasionally at a game. I've never had anything to do with any of them. Jason Marriner seems to of done alright out of the programme after being acquited. He still has his stall across the road from Fulham Broadway Tube on a home match and does after dinner speeches up and down the country. He is still banned from Stamford Bridge but I have seen him in there at least once and no he wasn't wearing a hoodie :-)

Good question on PCSO's. Around here they are, probably like the rest of the country, regarded as a joke. They don't get any respect because they have no powers of arrest. The kids know it and play on it. And the pissed up adults know it. I've seen for myself, some of the abuse they put up with. I feel sorry for your old lady I really do but until the PCSO's get the power of arrest like a normal copper then I can't see things changing. I do also blame the Government on that one,it really is a "cop" out as you say.

lol. you English blokes are complaining about hoodies? here in America we can't even ban assault rifles!

peskypesky said...

oh yeah and Michael Caine? totally bad-ass actor. totally. i bow down to his genius. a good example was that mediocre film "Children Of Men", which is worth watching for Caine's performance alone. he KILLS it.

To Just About Had Enough

This blog is called Punk Friction. Sometimes you get Punk, sometimes you get Friction. Sometimes you get neither or nothing. I'm a punk in spirit so I do what I want and say what I want :-)

To Pesky Pesky

I moan and complain about everything or haven't you noticed? An American complaining about Sir M Caines acting? C'mon, haven't you watched some of your films over there? A bag of shite but for a small handful. I watched that tripe 2012 last week. What a load of typically shitty American bollox that was! The acting was so plastic,I'm surprised nobody on the set melted.

Well said mate. Thanks for your advice in 2012..don't want to waste my time in garbage.

Thatcher broke it, and all the prats who voted for Thatcher and her party broke it.

The worrying thing is, some tiresomely terminally stupid English voters may just about to vote Tory at the next general election, and break it all over again. Only worse.

Don't let that happen folks.

John

I was going to mention Thatcher in the post John. She broke the spirit of the country when she smashed the unions and fucked up the miners. I have nothing good to say about her or the Tories. To be fair though,Labour haven't exactly pulled up any trees in all the time they have been in power either.

Well its not rocking science is it mate. I'm glad you support a decent football team anyway :-)
