I still keep seeing that goal in my mind and thinking WTF! How can you mess that one up. Fun match Longy!
Ken
Thats a West Ham goalkeeper for you Ken! Congratulations on the draw mate.
Sorry Longy, but during the first half i was feelin a thing like this can ever happen where an english goalkeeper is involved...the USA team play like Italy in the 70's,i have a soft spot for, having grown up in these distant times...but they played well, right in the end...
Had a Bonetti moment :(
I cannot say I am displeased with the result, but I am sure that no one feels worse about that play than the keeper. As, however, my grandpa used to say never look a gift horse in the mouth.
He knew 2 hours before the match that he was gonna play ??????
Strange decision Mr. Cappeli ?
Sad for Mr Greene
The problem for England is they no longer have any "great" goalkeepers where we used to have many.
I don't feel sad for Green. I feel sad for all the England fans. I wouldn't trust Green with a cup of tea - lets face it,he'd spill it!
Oh dear!
its only the first match, we shld still top the group. If its true that he didnt know he was playing till 2 hours before kick off thats a wierd decision by the manager. I bet we`re the only team at the world cup who have three keepers who don`t know whether they`re his first choice!
Longy
1.Certainly a huge blunder.I also noticed on a few back passes Greene did not have his body fully between the ball and the goal line.A small hop of the ball and into the net.
2.Lack of speed.Milner and Carragher especially.USA used their speed well.
3.Argentina was pure magic yesterday. The angles of their passes was uncanny.Passes into small spaces where a player is going not where he has been.Finishing not so good.Messi should have had a bundle!
And 'Suicidal Tendencies'?What is the old saying 'Football is not life and death,it is far more important than that.'
Cheers
Doug
Oh dear alright Nuzz
Corby yes your right,it is very strange if true - I have my doubts though and think he knew well before 2 hours. We may not top the group even if we win the 2 other games and that's what worries me (if we don't then its probably Germany in the next round)
Doug I wouldn't of even taken Green to be honest. He is shite! Milner was about to get sent off I thought and that's why he was probably replaced. Carragher was lucky too.
The Argies looked great coming forward I must admit but a bit dodgy at the back.
Suicidal Tendencies? Not yet but I might be in 2 games time :)
Not one single player went up to the keeper and gave him some support.
A couple of out field players let the american handle the ball too long just outsie the area, twisting and turning before shooting.
Well, still a plonker. But eleven players on the pitch.
Robert - Sweden.
The players were probably thinking the same as we all were Robert (ie what a w****r!)but true,we had 11 on the pitch and should of won with the men we had out there
Com'on Longy it was a mistake !! He's still Englands No1 or as his shirt says No12 lol
But seriously it was a stupid mistake but its either Green or "Clamity" James who both have west ham blood flowing through their veins so it looks like its a "hammer" between the sticks !!
The main problem is we don't have a keeper at a top club, all the keepers who have gone are from clubs that have struggled this season so untill an English keeper gets into a top flight club we are gonna continue having this problem !!
But at the end of the day Longy..have you seen how many ex hammers players there are in the squad :-)
Keep smiling mate
As you say Longy you win and lose as a team. I didn't think England kept the ball well or controlled the game or look particularly creative but having said all that didn't think the US would score and if we had won 1-0 everybody would be saying what a great start to the campaign so the margins of error are (increasingly) small. 100% improvement required however if we are to get to the latter stages.
On the subject of the GK - Trying hard to feel compassion for the lad but wtf!!! Hart's the long term and I'm in the camp that if you're good enough you're old enough. Green's confidence must be shot, can't afford any more slip ups and it would be a hell of a risk to carry on playing him. I would get Hart in now.
Hi Vulture. Seriously mate I would go with James first and Hart for second choice. I've never rated Green. Its not a West Ham hate thing mate honest (I would of taken Scott Parker for a start!) You are right though vulture about us having no decent keeper at a top club.
Hi Mullers - yes it wasn't a bad performance really but when you consider the opposition then the result most definately was. As I said above I would go with David James. He has the experience and has had a great season. I like Hart though and he is definately one for the future (did see him pick the ball out of the net 6 times in one game a couple of seasons back when we beat Citeh 6 0 though)
Thats's payback for inflicting us with Phil Collins!
lol I can't argue with that Nazz!
Thank you Denemarken.......
Good result topper but poor game by Dutch standards not that it matters.
Yea, poor game but i've seen only poor games 'till yet (except Germany).
Lets hope for Brasil
Your not wrong topper. Its been very poor so far. Hopefully it will pick today.
Longy
How do you spell 'Suicidal Tendencies' in Spanish?
Doug
