I never realised it at the time and it wasn't until recently when I watched an Undertones documentary, that this song was about the IRA hunger strikers. The day the band were in the Top Of The Pops studio doing this single was the day that Bobby Sands died - hence the black arm bands during the show. Looking back now, that must of been pretty brave of the band considering the tension in Northern Ireland (looking at it from an outsiders perpective of course)
To be honest,I didn't rate this at all at the time but like alot of stuff,I do like it now. I'm away for the weekend and will back posting either Monday or Tuesday depending on my hangover. Have a good weekend folks.

The Doc is great! Actually this is one of my favorite singles by The Undertones. I too did not know what the song was about until I saw the movie. Good job Longy!
Ken
Great!! as almost all they did
thanks Longy!!
Yeah I knew about the Bobby Sands story read about it at the time. This single is brilliant and the band made brilliant Punk singles and then brilliant Pop singles. The two albums they have released with their new singer have also been superb.
Gobshyte I have all the TPE stuff contact over on my blog and let me know what you want.
Great post as always Longy have a great w/end cheers mate.
This was probably the Undertones last, great 'single' in my opinion since Julie Ocean and the Love Parade were not up to much ! Great brass section and up-tempo pop as the Undertones were so good at....I too didn't realise what this song was about....an educational Blog aswell as a punk-tastic Blog!!
Cheers as always!
